Combos & Interactions

Requirements and sequence

These are reviewed gameplay relationships, not a decklist and not proof that a card is moving in the market.

3 lines

Infinite

Bolas's Citadel, Sensei's Divining Top, and Aetherflux Reservoir

Verified

Infinite card draw, infinite draw triggers, near-infinite storm count, near-infinite lifegain, and near-infinite damage through Aetherflux Reservoir.

Required Cards

Setup

  • Bolas's Citadel, Sensei's Divining Top, and Aetherflux Reservoir are on the battlefield.
  • Your life total is at least 2 before starting the loop.
  • You can activate Sensei's Divining Top and pay life to cast it from the top of your library.

All permanents must be established; the loop itself pays life for Top through Bolas's Citadel.

Sequence

  1. Tap Sensei's Divining Top to draw a card and put Top on top of your library.
  2. Cast Sensei's Divining Top from the top of your library with Bolas's Citadel by paying 1 life.
  3. Resolve Aetherflux Reservoir's spell trigger and gain life based on spells cast this turn.
  4. Repeat until life total is high enough.
  5. Activate Aetherflux Reservoir by paying 50 life to deal 50 damage to a target.
  6. Repeat the loop as needed.

Interruption Points

  • Remove or counter Bolas's Citadel before Top can be recast from the library.
  • Remove Aetherflux Reservoir before lifegain triggers resolve.
  • Counter Sensei's Divining Top on a key loop iteration.
  • Use graveyard or library disruption only if it changes the top-card access or draw sequence.

Timing: Top's activated ability needs the artifact untapped. The line is easier to defend on your turn with stack protection ready.

Rules notes: This is one combo family even when the sustaining outlet changes. Y'shtola is not required for the combo, but she can add pressure and draw around the combo turn. Aetherflux Reservoir outside this loop is a finisher only when the deck has enough spell velocity. Y'shtola card identity: Y'shtola, Night's Blessed has mana cost {1}{W}{U}{B}, mana value 4, white-blue-black color identity, type line Legendary Creature - Cat Warlock, 2/4 vigilance, Commander/Legacy/Vintage legality as a new FIC Commander card, and Scions & Spellcraft standard Commander-deck plus Collector's Edition surge-foil source rows. Each-end-step threshold: Y'shtola checks whether a player lost four or more life this turn as each end step begins. If no player has, it is too late to cause life loss after the end step begins to create that trigger. Noncreature trigger timing: Y'shtola's noncreature-spell trigger resolves before the spell that caused it and still resolves if that spell is countered or otherwise leaves the stack. Mana value and costs: Printed mana value determines whether a spell qualifies. Alternative costs, additional costs, and cost reductions do not change mana value; X uses the chosen value while the spell is on the stack. Two damage is not four life: One Y'shtola trigger usually deals two damage to each opponent, so another source of life loss is normally needed to meet the four-life threshold for that end step. Curiosity-style draw: Curiosity, Ophidian Eye, Tandem Lookout, and Helm of the Ghastlord care about damage to an opponent. When Y'shtola damages multiple opponents, the draw ability can trigger once for each opponent damaged. Rules certainty versus market evidence: Rules certainty and combo verification are separate from price confidence. Deck submissions and combo records show player interest, not confirmed sales, inventory pressure, or marketplace agreement.

Repeatable Loop

Displacer Kitten, Teferi, Time Raveler, and Sol Ring

Verified

Infinite card draw, infinite draw triggers, near-infinite colorless mana, and near-infinite storm count; the loop still needs a separate outlet or win card.

Required Cards

Setup

  • Displacer Kitten and Teferi, Time Raveler are on the battlefield.
  • Sol Ring is in hand.
  • You have {1} available to cast Sol Ring.
  • The list has an identified outlet such as Aetherflux Reservoir, Exsanguinate with colored mana support, Psychosis Crawler, or another win card.

{1} to start the published Commander Spellbook sequence.

Sequence

  1. Cast Sol Ring by paying {1}.
  2. Displacer Kitten triggers and blinks Teferi, Time Raveler.
  3. Tap Sol Ring for {C}{C}.
  4. Activate Teferi's minus ability to return Sol Ring to your hand and draw a card.
  5. Recast Sol Ring and repeat the loop.

Interruption Points

  • Remove Displacer Kitten before its blink trigger resolves.
  • Counter Sol Ring on a loop iteration.
  • Remove or attack Teferi so the bounce ability is unavailable.
  • Stop the separate outlet, because the loop alone does not win.

Timing: Teferi must be able to use the bounce ability after being blinked. The line is strongest when an outlet is already available or can be drawn into safely.

Rules notes: This line is an engine, not a deterministic win by itself. Near-infinite colorless mana does not automatically cast every Esper outlet. The finished list should name the intended conclusion before counting this as a win line. Rules Interaction

Thassa's Oracle and Demonic Consultation

Verified

Exile your library and win the game with Thassa's Oracle.

Required Cards

Setup

  • Thassa's Oracle and Demonic Consultation are available.
  • You have {U}{U}{B} available for the Commander Spellbook sequence.
  • The list has enough protection to defend the Oracle trigger or the Consultation window.

{U}{U}{B} in the published Commander Spellbook sequence.

Sequence

  1. Cast Demonic Consultation naming Thassa's Oracle, exiling your library because another Oracle is not present in the library.
  2. Cast Thassa's Oracle.
  3. Resolve Thassa's Oracle's enters-the-battlefield trigger and win the game.

Interruption Points

  • Counter Demonic Consultation before the library is exiled.
  • Counter or remove Thassa's Oracle before its trigger resolves if that changes devotion or removes the win condition.
  • Force a draw after the library is exiled and before the player wins.
  • Use stack interaction on the Oracle trigger where legal.

Timing: Usually executed on your turn with protection. Pregame disclosure is appropriate for Bracket 4 pods.

Rules notes: This is a deterministic Bracket 4+ package, not a value engine. Tainted Pact should be included only when the mana base and card-name configuration support it. The deck should carry enough protection before relying on this compact line. Y'shtola card identity: Y'shtola, Night's Blessed has mana cost {1}{W}{U}{B}, mana value 4, white-blue-black color identity, type line Legendary Creature - Cat Warlock, 2/4 vigilance, Commander/Legacy/Vintage legality as a new FIC Commander card, and Scions & Spellcraft standard Commander-deck plus Collector's Edition surge-foil source rows. Each-end-step threshold: Y'shtola checks whether a player lost four or more life this turn as each end step begins.
