Rules Answers

How Jace's −3 actually works

The −3 exiles another creature or planeswalker you control, then reveals cards from the top of your library until it finds a creature or planeswalker card and puts it onto the battlefield. The other revealed cards go to the bottom in a random order.

If the target disappears, does the −3 still work?

No. If the only target is gone or illegal when the ability resolves, nothing happens: no exile, no reveal, no hit. The 3 loyalty is already paid and is not refunded.

Is the revealed card cast?

No. It is put directly onto the battlefield, so ETB abilities work, but cast triggers, cascade, and storm do not.

Can Jace hit planeswalkers?

Yes. The reveal stops at the first creature or planeswalker card, a wider hit pool than creature-only Polymorph effects like Proteus Staff.

Can Jace target himself?

No. The word "another" rules it out. Exile a token or a different permanent instead.

Commander Overview

How This Commander Plays

Jace, Multiverse Architect is the four-color (WUBR) planeswalker commander of the Multiverse Reforged precon, built around a Polymorph −3. Jace wins by turning expendable tokens into a tightly curated creature or planeswalker hit, then repeating that conversion or protecting the resulting threat long enough to close the game. His +1 draws two and bottoms a card, which keeps an accidentally drawn bomb in the hit pool instead of stuck in hand.

Core Game Plan

  1. Develop WUBR fixing and token infrastructure.
  2. Resolve Jace behind disposable blockers.
  3. Use +1 for card advantage and hit-pool repair.
  4. Use −3 on expendable creature or planeswalker tokens.
  5. Put high-impact creatures or planeswalkers directly onto the battlefield.
  6. Rebuild loyalty and token fodder.
  7. Win through premium ETBs, overwhelming permanent advantage, planeswalkers, or an independently verified combo.

Build Paths

Deterministic One-Hit Polymorph

Curate the library down to exactly one eligible creature-or-planeswalker card so any legal −3 guarantees that hit.

This is a deterministic single-hit line, not an infinite combo -- it still costs loyalty, a target, and one activation per hit.
Bomb-Suite Polymorph

Run a curated suite of several premium creature and planeswalker hits instead of a single deterministic target, trading certainty for resilience.

Wider hit pool than the deterministic build; every non-premium creature or planeswalker card left in the library dilutes hit quality.
Token Control

Prioritize noncreature token generators (Skrelv's Hive, Dreadhorde Invasion, Bitterblossom, Secure the Wastes, Shark Typhoon) so fodder never costs a nontoken card.

This maps to the repository's published tokens Strategy for package context; it is support infrastructure for Jace, not a claim that Jace is a.
Planeswalker Polymorph

Lean into the planeswalker half of the hit pool (Elspeth, Sun's Champion; Ugin, the Spirit Dragon; Nicol Bolas and Teferi variants where WUBR-legal) alongside loyalty-support cards.

Distinct from Superfriends -- superfriends is not a published Strategy in this repository, and this build's payoff is still the −3 Polymorph engine, not.

Hit-Pool Quality

What makes a card good or bad for Jace's −3?

Brainstorm

Puts a premium creature or planeswalker from your hand back on top, so a −3 that turn reveals it first.

Skrelv's Hive

A Mite token every upkeep. The Hive is an enchantment, so it adds fodder without adding a creature card to the hit pool.

Dreadhorde Invasion

Amasses every upkeep. After −3 exiles your Army, the next upkeep makes a fresh one.

Archon of Cruelty

A premium hit: on entering, an opponent sacrifices, discards, and loses 3 life while you draw and gain 3. No cast needed.

What weakens the hit pool: every low-impact creature or planeswalker left in your library is another possible −3 hit. A card that is fine when drawn can still make Jace's result less predictable, so count those before adding them.

If Dack Fayden, Helping Hand reveals Venser, Fervent Forger, Venser enters under your control and is then handed to an opponent before its trigger is put on the stack. That lets the trigger target the donated Venser, make two token copies, and keep generating new Venser enters triggers; you still need a useful opponent-controlled permanent or another payoff to turn the loop into a win.

Inventory / seller depth

Ichormoon Gauntlet's ONE #56 CardTrader supply has tightened sharply: 116 tracked copies across 54 vendors on September 8 became 29 copies across 8 vendors on September 20. Tam and Jace Superfriends brewing gives that contraction a credible demand backdrop, but missing listings are not automatically confirmed sales.
