Repeatable Loop
Fire Lord Azula, Narset's Reversal, and Frantic Search
Infinite draw, discard, and looting triggers; near-infinite blue mana, land untaps, mana those lands can produce, Magecraft triggers, and storm count.
Required Cards
Setup
- Azula is on the battlefield without summoning sickness and can attack.
- Narset's Reversal and Frantic Search are in hand.
- Up to three controlled lands can produce at least {U}{U}{U} before each Frantic Search untap.
Three lands able to produce {U}{U}{U}; firebending supplies {R}{R} toward Frantic Search's generic cost.
Sequence
- Declare Azula as an attacker and resolve firebending 2.
- Tap up to three lands for at least {U}{U}{U}, then cast Frantic Search for {2}{U}; Azula copies it.
- Resolve the Frantic Search copy, loot twice, and untap up to three lands; tap them again for at least {U}{U}{U}.
- Cast Narset's Reversal for {U}{U}, targeting the original Frantic Search; Azula copies Reversal with its copy targeting the original Reversal.
- Resolve the copied Reversal to copy the original Reversal and return the original Reversal to hand.
- Resolve that Reversal copy to copy Frantic Search and return the original Frantic Search to hand.
- Resolve the new Frantic Search copy, loot twice, untap the lands, and repeat while the library and discardable cards permit.
Interruption Points
- Prevent Azula from attacking or remove her before the relevant spells are cast.
- Counter Azula's copy trigger, Frantic Search, Narset's Reversal, or a critical copy.
- Remove access to three blue-producing land mana or restrict multiple spells per turn.
- End combat before another iteration can be cast.
Fire Lord Azula role: Azula supplies both copies needed to return Narset's Reversal and Frantic Search to hand.
Timing: All repeated spells must be cast while Azula is attacking and before combat ends.
Rules notes: Commander Spellbook exact combo ID 11-2196-7089. Draw/discard/looting triggers are infinite, but mana, untaps, Magecraft, and storm are near-infinite because the loop is bounded by library and discard resources. Azula copies are not casts; storm rises from repeatedly recasting the returned cards. Azula rule 1: Firebending 2 is a triggered ability that uses the stack when Azula attacks. Its red mana survives combat step changes but is lost when combat ends; multiple firebending instances trigger separately. Azula rule 2: Azula copies only a spell cast while she is attacking. Instants naturally fit that window; sorceries and most permanent spells need separate timing permission. Azula rule 3: Azula puts the copy directly on the stack. The copy is not cast, does not retrigger Azula or cast-only abilities, and does not independently increase storm count. Azula rule 4: Magecraft and other abilities that explicitly say cast or copy can trigger from a qualifying Azula copy; cast-only effects such as Guttersnipe do not trigger from the copy. Azula rule 5: Azula can copy permanent spells when timing permission allows them to be cast during combat. A resolving permanent-spell copy becomes a token, but that token was not created for abilities that check token creation. Azula rule 6: After Azula's trigger exists on the stack, countering the original spell does not remove that trigger. The trigger uses last known information to make a copy even if the original has left the stack. Azula rule 7: A copied X spell uses the original chosen value of X. Additional costs are not paid again, and copied effects retain information about costs paid for the original. Azula rule 8: If Fire Nation Palace gives Azula firebending 4, her printed firebending 2 and granted firebending 4 trigger separately when she attacks.
