Combos & Interactions

Requirements and sequence

These are reviewed gameplay relationships, not a decklist and not proof that a card is moving in the market.

3 lines

Infinite

Captain America + Animation Module + Ashnod's Altar + Maskwood Nexus

Verified

Infinite +1/+1 counters on Captain America, infinite ETB, LTB, death and sacrifice triggers, and infinite colorless mana. A separate payoff is needed for an immediate deterministic win.

Required Cards

Setup

  • Captain America, Animation Module, Ashnod's Altar, and Maskwood Nexus are on the battlefield.
  • You can create or receive an initial +1/+1-counter event.
  • You have {1} available to pay for Animation Module.

Sequence

  1. Put a +1/+1 counter on a creature.
  2. Pay {1} for Animation Module and create a Servo.
  3. Maskwood Nexus makes the Servo a Hero as it enters.
  4. Captain America triggers and puts counters on the Servo and Captain America.
  5. Animation Module triggers from those counter events.
  6. Sacrifice the Servo to Ashnod's Altar for {C}{C}.
  7. Decline one Module trigger.
  8. Spend {1} on the other trigger to create another Servo.
  9. Repeat.

Interruption Points

  • Remove Captain America before the Servo enters.
  • Remove Maskwood Nexus so the Servo is not a Hero.
  • Remove Animation Module before the token chain continues.
  • Remove Ashnod's Altar before sacrifice mana is available.

Captain America, Team Leader role: Captain America supplies the Hero-entry counter triggers that keep Animation Module producing Servo tokens.

Rules notes: Triggered Hero Entry: Captain America's ability is triggered. It triggers only when another Hero its controller controls enters the battlefield. Not Self Entry: Captain America does not trigger for himself. Casting a Hero is not enough; the Hero must enter the battlefield. No Target: The ability does not target. The entering Hero is identified by the event that caused the trigger. Temporary Keywords: The entering Hero gains haste and vigilance until end of turn. Haste can allow attacks or tap abilities that turn; vigilance does not untap a tapped creature. Permanent Counters: The entering Hero gets a +1/+1 counter and Captain America gets a +1/+1 counter. Those counters remain after the turn ends unless removed or the object changes zones. Multiple Entries: Multiple Heroes entering simultaneously create separate triggers. Hero tokens can trigger the ability if they are Heroes as they enter. Trigger Independence: Once the Hero-entry ability has triggered, removing Captain America does not remove that trigger from the stack. On resolution, the entering Hero can still gain the temporary keywords and receive its counter, while an absent Captain America cannot receive a counter. Legend Rule Timing: Legendary token copies can trigger before the legend rule is applied. The legend rule is not sacrifice. Trigger Amplification: Panharmonicon and Elesh Norn can increase the enter-trigger count. Roaming Throne naming Hero can also increase the count for triggered abilities of another Hero. Zone Changes: Blink creates a new object and removes old counters. Phasing does not cause an entry, while reanimation does. Type-Changing Effects: Effects such as Maskwood Nexus or Leyline of Transformation must make the creature a Hero at the relevant time for Captain America to trigger. Animation Module: Animation Module can trigger from the +1/+1 counter placed on the entering Hero and from the +1/+1 counter placed on Captain America. Multiple Captain Americas: Nonlegendary Captain America copies trigger separately. A second legendary Captain America can trigger the first before the legend rule applies.
