What to check for this commander
Commander context
Yuriko balances cheap enablers, Ninjas, top-deck setup, high-mana-value cards that remain castable, and interaction that protects combat connections.
Commander ninjutsu is not casting
Commander ninjutsu may be activated from hand or command zone. It is an activated ability, does not pay commander tax, and does not increase future commander tax.
Returning the attacker is a cost
The unblocked attacking creature controlled by the activating player is returned to hand as part of the activation cost, before opponents can respond.
Timing and combat status
Commander ninjutsu can be activated only after blockers are declared. Yuriko enters tapped and attacking on resolution, was not declared as an attacker, and does not create attack-declaration triggers.
Blocked attackers stay blocked
An attacker that was blocked remains blocked even if every blocker leaves combat, so it cannot become a commander-ninjutsu return target that way.
Post-damage activation
Ninjutsu can be activated during declare blockers, combat damage, or end of combat, but activating after normal combat damage usually prevents that Ninja from dealing combat damage.
Every Ninja connection triggers
Yuriko triggers for herself and for each Ninja you control that deals combat damage to a player. Multiple triggers stay separate and can be ordered by the controller.
Top card is checked on resolution
Players may respond between Yuriko triggers. The current top card is revealed and put into hand as each trigger resolves, and that movement is not drawing a card.
Life loss is not damage
Each opponent loses life equal to the revealed card's mana value. The ability does not target and damage prevention does not stop it.
Mana-value edge cases
Lands have mana value zero; X is zero in the library; alternate, reduced, delve, pitch, and free-cast costs do not change mana value; split, modal double-faced, Adventure, and Prototype cards require exact off-stack rules checks.
Empty library
An empty library follows the rules-verified result for the trigger rather than fabricating a revealed card or value.
Ninja tempo
Start with cheap evasive attackers, bring Yuriko in after blockers, and protect repeated Ninja connections.
Mana-value reveal pressure
Use top-deck setup and high-mana-value cards with low effective costs to make each trigger matter.
Competitive consultation
Use the Yuriko shell to draw cards and pressure life totals while keeping a compact Oracle finish.
Ninja theft
Use Fallen Shinobi and similar combat-damage Ninjas as a branch, not as Yuriko's universal Strategy.
