Commander Overview

How This Commander Plays

Lightning is a three-mana Boros Human Soldier whose Stagger trigger rewards one clean combat-damage connection. The default plan is Voltron: make Lightning connect, mark one player until your next turn, then convert that damage-doubling window through normal combat damage, extra combats, burn, goad pressure, or reflection lines.

Core Game Plan

  1. Establish red-white mana and one enabling piece.
  2. Cast Lightning and protect the first attack.
  3. Make Lightning personally deal combat damage to the chosen player.
  4. Exploit Stagger immediately with combat, direct damage, or another attack step.
  5. Use the full turn cycle, then protect, reset, and repeat.

Build Paths

Voltron Stagger

Suit up Lightning with evasion, protection, and power so one combat-damage trigger starts the damage-doubling window.

This is the default build and depends most heavily on Lightning staying in play.
Extra Combats

Use additional combat steps to exploit a staggered opponent or mark another player before the turn cycle ends.

This branch values attack-step cards more than pure burn.
Burn and Damage Control

Connect with Lightning, then point damage spells or sweepers at the staggered player and permanents they control.

Burn is secondary because it is much weaker before Stagger resolves.
Goad and Reflection

Use goad, table pressure, and damage-reflection cards to make the doubled-damage window matter outside Lightning's combat.

This branch is more political and more rules-sensitive than default Voltron.

The verified deterministic finisher is Lightning with double strike and at least 7 power dealing 21 commander damage to one player. Off-color Commander Spellbook lines with black cards are rejected for Boros.
